After retiring from his career as a rider, Toni Elías returns to the MotoGP paddock this year. He will join Gresini as a coach for the Moto2 and MotoE teams.
In an interview with SPEEDWEEK.com on the sidelines of last week’s Moto2 tests, the 40-year-old Spaniard stated: ‘I will act as a coach for Gresini in Moto2 and MotoE and will try to pass on my experience to our riders. We tried it in the last two races of last year, and I really liked it. So we talked about it, and I decided that I would try to strengthen the team’.
Regarding what he hopes to add, Elías explained: ‘I want to give the riders whatever they need – and different riders may need different things. Sometimes it’s about riding style, sometimes it’s about setup or creating a better connection between the rider and the team, but it can also be mental aspects. There’s no one system that works for everyone. It’s about giving each rider or the team what they need at a certain time’.
