Toprak Razgatlioglu concluded the World Superbike Championship tests in Portimão with the best time, setting a new lap record for the Algarve circuit… even believing that he would have been the winner if it had been a race.
Speaking to GPOne.com, the Turkish ROKiT BMW rider reacted to the lap time of 1m39.189s: ‘The time is truly incredible, as it was achieved on the SC0 [tyre]. In fact, we did a good simulation in the high 1m39s and low 1m40s’.
Despite being cautious for the opening round in Australia, Razgatlioglu believes he would have the pace to win a race if it had taken place yesterday in Portimão: ‘We were very strong here, but in Phillip Island, I don’t know how it will go. There are many unknowns because the track is different, as is the grip, and then there is the new asphalt. It’s still too early to say what to expect in Australia. But if there had been a race today [yesterday], I think I would have won since my pace was really strong’.
