Toprak Razgatlioglu secured pole position for the Portimão round of the World Superbike Championship on Saturday, ensuring he will start from the front in both the first race and the Superpole race.
Strong start by Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW), taking the lead on his first lap ahead of Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati). Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati) soon moved into third place.
Approximately nine minutes from the end, Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) experienced a setback when he crashed, though the incident had no major consequences beyond the time lost. With six minutes remaining, several riders were in the pits preparing for their final attempts.
When action resumed, Alex Lowes (Kawasaki) briefly moved into second place, swapping positions with Petrucci. Razgatlioglu, however, improved his time further to solidify his lead. The Turkish rider did not improve after that, but Lowes could not surpass him, finishing second by just 0.104s.
The battle for third place continued until the end. Bulega initially surpassed Petrucci, but the former MotoGP rider quickly reclaimed third place to start from the front row of the grid. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW) finished fifth, followed by two-time World Champion Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati). Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) qualified eighth.
