Toprak Razgatlioglu will start from pole position in the first race and the Superpole race of the World Superbike Championship in Barcelona. The ROKiT BMW rider was clearly superior in the Superpole on Saturday.
The first rider to complete a flying lap was Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati), immediately overtaken by Alex Lowes (Kawasaki). However, Razgatlioglu only needed his first lap to secure pole position.
In his first attempt, the Turkish rider clocked a time of 1m39.489s, setting a new record at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. It was up to the competition to try to match or beat this high benchmark, but nobody managed to do so.
The closest competitor was Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati), who finished second, 0.102s behind, followed by Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven/Ducati) at 0.310s. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW) took fourth place, a strong result for the Bavarian manufacturer.
Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS/Ducati) completed the top five ahead of Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha). As for Bautista, he could only manage 11th position. Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) fared even worse, starting from 13th.
