Valentino Rossi makes his debut this weekend in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Competing in a BMW for Team WRT in the LMGT3 category, Rossi has ambitious goals alongside his teammates Ahmad Al Harthy and Maxime Martin.
With a podium finish in mind, “Il Dottore” admitted to La Gazzetta dello Sport that it’s more challenging than MotoGP to gauge the level of competition, as strategies are more concealed in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
– Compared to MotoGP, in these races, it’s much harder to understand the level; everyone hides their cards, and it’s more difficult to see who is really pushing. In theory, our pace isn’t bad, and the goal is to fight for the podium.
In a 24-hour race, drivers take turns at the wheel throughout the event. Rossi discussed the plan: ‘Maxime should start, while I, if the plan doesn’t change, should take my first stint around 20:00, then drive again at night and in the morning’.
