Max Verstappen and Penelope have a strong and close relationship. The Dutchman emerged victorious at the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, leading the race from the start and maintaining his lead after the pitstop phase. This victory held a special meaning for Verstappen as it marked the first time he won in the presence of his stepdaughter.
In Australia, Verstappen was on course to secure nine consecutive victories before facing brake issues. His partner’s daughter, Penelope, was present at the race eagerly awaiting Verstappen’s success. Unfortunately, he had to retire, leaving Penelope disappointed. However, she had the opportunity to cheer for Verstappen during the podium celebrations in Japan, fulfilling her wish.
Reflecting on his victory, Verstappen explained the importance of winning the Japanese Grand Prix. He shared that if he hadn’t won, Penelope might have believed she brought bad luck and could have chosen not to watch future races.
Meanwhile, there are ongoing issues within the Red Bull team. These internal conflicts may have led some team members, including a key figure like Stevenson, to explore other options. Despite this, the reigning champion does not blame Stevenson for leaving the team and instead wishes him success in his new endeavor.
Stevenson has an extensive career in motorsport spanning over two decades, with more than 18 years at Red Bull. Verstappen clarified that just like drivers, engineers also seek new opportunities and try new things, so Stevenson’s departure is not his fault.
Looking ahead, it is expected that Red Bull will have a strong performance in the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix. After their impressive display at the Suzuka International Circuit, they are considered the favorites for the event in Shanghai. Verstappen currently leads the 2024 Drivers’ Championship with 77 points.
