Raúl Fernández was in the fight for point-scoring positions in the MotoGP Austrian GP but had to retire on the penultimate lap due to a breakdown that affected him for much of last Sunday’s race at the Red Bull Ring.
The Trackhouse Racing rider stated: ‘We had a mechanical issue from the middle to the end of the race. Anyways, this is part of the game, and I think that during the race we did a really good step. I feel much better with the bike, I feel that I can brake where I want’.
Before the failure, Fernández was pleased with his performance, as he mentioned: ‘During the first part of the race I saw that we had more or less the same pace of the factory boys, because when I saw, we had two or three different references with them in some different parts of the track and the gap was more or less the same. The problem was from the middle to the end of the race, that we had a mechanical issue’.
The Spaniard admitted that, due to what happened with his Aprilia RS-GP, it wasn’t possible to finish the race, which left him disappointed despite the satisfactory performance: ‘In the last lap I tried to end the race for the team, but it was impossible. So it was really disappointing. Also we know that the track is quite complicated for us, and we did more or less a good race, but anyways this is part of the game’.
