The results crisis for Honda in MotoGP shows no signs of abating. This weekend, it is once again proving to be one of the weakest links in the French GP, and Joan Mir admitted that with the currently available material, it is not possible to achieve better results.
For the 2020 champion, without changes to the RC213V, aiming for better results is not realistic: ‘We have the same bike, the same package as the previous races, we can’t ask for better results. We always give the maximum and our positions at the moment are that ones. If we don’t get these upgrades we try in the tests, we will be in the same position’.
Mir then said: ‘I hope that they react quickly and we get some upgrades soon on that direction, it’s important. Because if not, we cannot ask for more’.
The Mallorcan mentioned that Honda has changed internally and shows more reaction, but he believes it’s still necessary to wait and see if it’s enough: ‘It’s true that Honda has also changed a lot of things internally. Probably they think that is enough, that is a bit the thing. But at the moment it’s true that we have to give a bit of time to understand and to have some patience and give the new people the chance and the opportunity. But it’s true that everything what we try at the moment is not the direction. Compared to last year, what I can say is that I see more reaction this year, this is a fact. But if you ask to me if it is enough or not, I don’t know. Let’s give a little bit more of time and be a little bit more patient. But at the moment the reality is this one’.
After the French GP, Honda will have a private test at Mugello, which Mir hopes will be well utilized: ‘We have a test next week. Honestly I don’t know what we will try, but I hope that if they make me test is for some reason’.
