The Pan America 1250 was Harley-Davidson’s first adventure touring bike and, in its first three years on the market, it first had to gain visibility, then be understood and finally convince.
It is doing so in many ways, most recently with its thrilling participation in the Africa Eco Race with Joan Pedrero, which saw it cross the finish line ahead of other specialized motorcycles. However, the Adventure Touring family could soon be enriched by a new model, the Pan America CVO. For those unfamiliar with the American brand’s acronyms, CVO stands for Custom Vehicle Operations and is a range that crosses the various motorcycle families, with the top models in each of them being completely revamped in terms of style and performance. In fact, CVOs are production specials that are at the top of Harley-Davidson’s list in terms of price, of course, but above all in terms of performance. But CVOs are not only equipped with the highest specifications and the best accessories, they also generally have a higher engine capacity than the same “standard” model. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case with Pan America.
Some American media have released information contained in the California Air Resources Board (CARB) homologation, among which appears a Pan America CVO, but with a 1,252 cc engine and therefore apparently identical to the version we already know. What changes in the documents, however, is the weight: if the standard Pan America weighs 258 kg (in the USA it is declared to be 245 kg in running order), the new CVO should be 20 kg heavier. This information leads us to assume that this is an even richer version, with clearly more accessories and which may already have luggage equipment as standard.
CVOs are also usually known for their more elaborate appearance, with more details and more appealing paintwork, so it’s very likely that, if a Pan America CVO is confirmed, it will look different from the one we know. We still don’t know if and when it will arrive, but we do know that Harley-Davidson has scheduled a special online event for January 24 to present some important new products. Who knows if the Pan America CVO will be among them.
