Wilson Fittipaldi Júnior passed away early this Friday at the age of 80. The former driver, from the Fittipaldi family, had a career in Formula 1 and was one of the founders of Copersucar alongside his brother Emerson.
According to Globo.com, the Brazilian lost his life due to complications from a cardiac arrest after choking last December. Since last Christmas, he had been hospitalized in São Paulo – and in the intensive care unit since mid-January.
It was in F1 that Fittipaldi Júnior stood out the most, completing three seasons between 1972 and 1975 – two with Brabham and one with Copersucar-Fittipaldi. His best result was fifth place in the 1973 German Grand Prix.
To the grieving family and friends of Wilson Fittipaldi Júnior, AutoGear expresses its heartfelt condolences.
