Marc Márquez surprised at the MotoGP French Grand Prix, securing second place after starting from 13th. The recovery was gradual and culminated with the overtake on Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) on the last lap.
After this second podium of the season in a main race, the Gresini rider told the official broadcast: ‘It was a really nice comeback starting from 13th. Today was a good start, but not as yesterday, so it took time to overtake the other riders – especially at the beginning, with the new tyres the acceleration is very similar between all of us. Then, when the tyres dropped I started to manage well the situation, but the most impressive thing is that when I was alone, the pace was there and I was catching the top guys’.
Regarding the overtake on Bagnaia, Márquez reflected: ‘At the end I tried for five laps to overtake Pecco, but he was braking super late. But on that last lap, I said: «I try». You know me, so I must try, I tried and it was a good overtake. This time I was able to keep the line and defend well the last sector’.
Finally, the Spaniard commented: ‘I’m super happy, thanks to the team because this weekend we struggled a lot on Friday, but we understand why, so we keep learning a few things on this bike and today we were fast’.
